Ever wondered how digital designs turn into real, physical objects? In this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop, students will explore the exciting world of 3D printing from start to finish.
What to Expect:
See: a 3D printer in action!
Learn: I will cover how to combine shapes, make objects hollow, and how to export files using Tinkercad. Additionally, participants will put the model file into the slicer to turn it into a .gx file so it can go on the 3D printer.
Make & Take: You will get to make a 3D printed object. Most prints will be ready for pick up at the IL HRC in about 1-2 weeks.
Participants: up to 10 people; recommended for upper elementary through middle school ages
Checkpoints through the lesson:
Observe a short Tinkercad overview powerpoint presentation (paper copies will be available to review while learning)
Create a draft plan of your 3D object on paper (with measurements)
Individual instruction time to turn a paper draft into a computer file for the 3D printer (Participants should bring something to do if waiting for their turn for this step.)
